The copy of the analytical results has been included and the complete laboratory report will be
forwarded once it is available. The pump that is used for this well is a jet pump and is situated atop the casing,
preventing the collection of the groundwater sample directly from the well. Jet pumps are self priming and
recharging so that samples collected from the sampling port may have come in contact with air. Standard
practice mandates that volatile organic groundwater samples be collected to minimize contact with air which can
reduce concentrations in the water due to the action of volatilization.Unfortunately, the configuration and type of
pump that is used for this well will prevent the collection of more representative samples. Please note, that
contamination has not been detected in the pump samples from the wells immediately neighboring your property.
PHS/EHD has directed Shell to repair and replace chlorinating plugs of these wells,so that samples may also be
collected directly from the well without any pumping influences. Also, Enviros, Shell's environmental
consultant has stated that the Department of Water Resources' records will be reviewed to obtain information
pertaining to the construction of the well located on your property. If you have any information regarding
construction details and/or date of installation, please contact me.
PHS/EHD has directed Shell Oil to include your well in their quarterly sampling program, if your permission is
granted. PHS/EHD will continue to keep you informed, as information becomes available. Please contact me at
(209)468-0337, if you have any questions.
