i
The domestic well located at 2472 Country Club Boulevard did not have access for sample collection
until modifications were made to the well head during December 1997 This modification and the
December sampling results are discussed later in this report
The well located at 2468 Country Club Boulevard was the first domestic well to be sampled in
connection with this site investigation Ground water samples were collected from this well from the
sample port and from inside the well through the chlorination plug opening This well was initially
sampled on July 16, 1997 The sample collected from the sample port did not contain detectable
levels of TPPH, BTEX, and MTBE The sample collected from inside the well also did not contain
detectable levels of TPPH and BTEX MTBE was detected in this sample at a concentration of 5 9
ppb by EPA Method 8020 and 8 1 ppb by EPA Method 8260 This well was resampled on August 5,
1997 confirming these results The sample from the sample port was ND for TPPH, BTEX and
oxygenate compounds The sample collected from inside the well did not contain detectable levels of
TPPH, and BTEX, and MTBE was detected at 6 5 ppb by EPA 8020 and 6 0 ppb by EPA Method
8260 No other oxygenate compounds were detected in this ground water sample
The domestic well located at 2468 Country Club Boulevard was sampled again on August 29, 1997,
the day after the property owner had a new pump installed in the well An oily/greasy sheen was
detected by Shell's sampling subcontractor on the surface of the water in the well the day after the
new pump had been installed The ground water sample collected from the sample port did not
contain detectable levels of TPPH or oxygenate compounds and contained benzene at a
concentration of 0 99 ppb The ground water sample collected from within the well contained 580
ppb TPPH, 40 ppb benzene, and 8 3 ppb MTBE (by EPA 8020) Analysis for volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) by 8260 was performed and several compounds were detected in this sample
The compounds and concentrations detected are listed in Table 4
RECENT INVESTIGATIONS
CONE PENETROMETER TESTING
Three soil borings were advanced using cone penetrometer testing (CPT) equipment at the locations
of the proposed deep monitoring wells The purpose of the CPT borings was to determine the
lithology and determine the depth at which the second water bearing zone occurs beneath the site
One of the CPT borings was drilled on the 2452 Country Club Boulevard property near the proposed
location of MW-14 This CPT boring was advanced deeper than the other two on-site CPT borings
to evaluate the lithology in which the 2452 Country Club Boulevard domestic water well is
constructed
240-0783 5
