Well Instatlation Report 4
7-Eleven Inc.,Store#14117, 2725 Country Club Boulevard,Stockton,CA August 12, 1999
3.0 SOIL ASSESSMENT WORK
' 3.1 Permitting/Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan
Permits for the installation of the four groundwater monitoring wells were applied for and obtained from
the SJCPHS. Following a complete review of site conditions, IT Corporation revised the existing
' site-specific Health and Safety Plan as required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration
Standard Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response guidelines (29 Code of Federal
Regulations 1910.120). The document was reviewed and signed by all IT Corporation personnel and
' subcontractors prior to commencement of work at the site.
' 3.2 Soil Borings
' On May 13 and 14, 1999, IT Corporation supervised the drilling of four soil borings to a depth of 25 to
51 feet BGS utilizing a truck-mounted drill rig equipped with 8-inch outside-diameter(O.D.) hollow-stem
augers. All drilling equipment was steam cleaned prior to drilling each boring, and sampling equipment
was washed in an Alconoxe (detergent) solution and rinsed with water between sampling intervals. All
soil and rinse water generated during the drilling was placed in labeled Department of Transportation
' (DOT)-approved 55-gallon drums and left on the site pending transportation and disposal.
' 3.3 Soil Sample Collection
Soil samples were collected from each borehole at 5-foot depth intervals from 5 feet BGS to total
depth. Samples were collected using a 2-inch O.D. California split-spoon sampler, lined with three
1.5-inch-diameter by 6-inch-long brass tubes. The sampler was driven 18 inches ahead of the augers
at each sample point. Soil samples were field screened for hydrocarbon vapors using a
photo-ionization detector. Soil was logged using the Unified Soil Classification System by a IT
' Corporation field geologist working under the supervision of a California registered geologist
(Appendix A). One sample tube from each sampling interval was sealed, labeled, and placed on ice
in an insulated container for transport under chain-of-custody to state-certified Core Laboratories in
1 Anaheim, California. Two samples, MW-2-40' and MW-45', were sent to Acculabs, Inc. in Davis,
California for rush analysis.
1
14111we1!rpt
a
s
