The workplan was prepared in response to the Regional Board's
18 January 2005 correspondence requesting additional wells at the site based on identified groundwater
conditions.
After reviewing the workplan, I have the following comments:
— Section 4.4 describes surveying of the proposed wells. The survey must be adequate to ensure that
all the site monitoring well elevations are known and the wells can be used to evaluate groundwater
flow directions.
— Section 4.7 describes the analytical methods for groundwater samples. Monitoring and Reporting
Program Order No. 5-01-114 requires samples to be collected from each groundwater monitoring
well in accordance with the approved groundwater monitoring workplan. Please define the
monitoring network that will be used to evaluate groundwater conditions at the site.
— Table 1 lists the analytes that will be monitored. Please note that the list of analytes for Standard
Minerals is not the same as the MRP list. Addition of analytes is acceptable if desired but that
additional data must be submitted to the Regional Board.
— Figure 2 identifies the two proposed wells. The following comments address the proposed well
locations:
■ Please consider moving the western proposed well to a location closer to the south of the
4.64-acre lawn area.
■ Site C doesn't appear to be adequately monitored downgradient; please add a well to monitor
that land application area.
California Environmental Protection Agency
Ca Recycled Paper
