Mr. Mike Bowles - 2 - 21 August 2000
ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS
1) Describe the prevailing wind directions and nearby industrial or populated areas.
2) Provide a description of plant operation and maintenance procedures as related to
wastewater generation, storage, and land application.
3) Describe the disposal of all stormwater, industrial, and domestic wastewater. Please provide
information on the flow rate for each and the location of meters used to collect the data.
4) Describe the source of all wastewater, estimate the volumes from each source, and provide
any chemical analyses, metered data,or observations on the wastewater quality not included
in monthly or annual reports. Provide diagrams of the wastewater generation and treatment
systems; include all sidestream treatment processes and describe the disposal of any waste
materials generated.
5) Identify all process water treatment activities (i.e. ion exchange, reverse osmosis), and
wastestreams generated (i.e. regeneration brine solutions, reject water, etc.), and the disposal
of the wastewater generated in the treatment processes.
6) Identify and describe maintenance activities that may occur which generate wastewater. For
example, describe the number of furnaces operated, and the furnace rebuilding schedule, and
the disposal of wastewater generated in furnace rebuilding procedures.
7) Describe anticipated wastewater flow trends for the next ten years. Is flow anticipated to
increase or decrease?
8) Describe any chemical additives that are added to the process water or wastewater to prevent
scaling, biofouling, or other undesirable tendency. Include a description of the cooling
towers, additives to the cooling water, and approximate chemical use rate. Is wastewater
generated in air pollution control devices?
9) Describe procedures to control contaminants in the wastewater streams. The description
shall include a discussion of how the treatment and disposal system protects groundwater
quality.
10) Identify solids generated in wastewater treatment and describe the handling and disposal of
solids generated in the treatment processes.
11) What is the approximate storage capacity of the existing pond (allow for two feet of
freeboard)? Provide diagrams of the pond showing size, depth, and piping connections.
Has the pond ever overflowed?
12) Provide a site map showing the locations of domestic/process water wells, groundwater
monitoring wells, and other wells on the property or within 250 feet of the existing or
proposed application areas. Include available data on the depth of groundwater and
information on aquifers and aquitards identified beneath the property.
13) Describe the property lines, surface water drainage patterns, and groundwater flow direction.
