S ECOR "
7-Eleven Store#20632
Offsite Assessment Work Plan
June 18, 2004
Page 3
Soil generated through drilling will be placed in Department-of-Transportation (DOT) approved 55-
gallon drums on site pending characterization and disposal. Water generated by steam cleaning will
be contained in a steam-clean trailer and temporarily stored on site in DOT approved 55-gallon
drums.
Soil samples collected will be sealed with Teflon sheets and plastic caps, then labeled and placed on I
ice in an insulated container for delivery to Kiff Analytical located in Davis, California. As shown in
Table 3, selected soil samples will be analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes
(BTEX), TPHg, and fuel oxygenates MtBE, tert-butyl alcohol (TBA), ethyl-tert-butyl ether(EtBE), tert-
amyl-methyl ether (TAME), and diisopropyl ether (DIPE) using Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) Method 8260B.
Groundwater Sampling and Analysis
Grab groundwater samples will be collected from each boring using a slim hole disposable bailer to
transfer groundwater to laboratory-cleaned sample containers, sealed with Teflon°-lined caps, and
transferred to cooled storage. Based on the depth to water measurements in onsite well MW-7,
groundwater is expected to be encountered between 7 and 8 feet bgs. In the event that groundwater
is not encountered before reaching the final depth of the borings (approximately 8 feet bgs), the
borings will be advanced an additional 2 feet, to 10 feet bgs, to allow the collection of groundwater
samples.
Groundwater samples will be submitted to Kiff Analytical, a California-certified laboratory,for analysis
of BTEX, TPHg, MtBE, TAME, EtBE, TBA, and DIPE by EPA Method 8260B.
WASTE HANDLING AND STORAGE
During drilling operations, sampling tools, and down hole equipment will be steam cleaned prior to
use. Rinsate water, purge water and soil cuttings generated during the drilling and groundwater
sampling will be stored in 55-gallon drums at the site pending laboratory analysis for proper disposal.
REPORTING AND SCHEDULE
SECOR will prepare a report summarizing the fieldwork completed and data collected including:
• Details of field procedures and operations;
• Boring logs;
• Soil and groundwater analytical data;
• Updated map showing the location of borings; and,
• Maps and tables summarizing the results.
SECOR can perform the proposed work and submit the assessment report approximately eight
weeks after SJCEHD approval of this work plan.
20632 Offsite Assessment.doc SECOR International Incorporated
