GROUNDWORKS
ENVIRONMENTAL,INC.
June 5, 1998
Project AE5701
Mr. Dave Henry
Hazard Management Consulting, Inc.
1528 Via Tulipan
San Clemente, California 92673
Re: Letter report - dewatering system discharge sampling and field observations at
Crossroads Center in Lathrop, California
Dear Dave,
Groundworks Environmental, Inc. (Groundworks) has prepared this letter report, at
your request, to document services performed by Groundworks at the Crossroads
Center in Lathrop, California. Groundworks' services consisted largely of dewatering
system discharge sampling and field observations related to the excavation of soils for
subsurface utility placement just beyond the present eastern terminus of D'Arcy
Parkway (site).
Background
It is Groundworks' understanding that diesel fuel-contaminated soil and groundwater
had been encountered on site, and that the diesel fuel was likely related to the fueling
and/or operation of construction-related equipment on site.
Groundworks understands that approximately 200 cubic yards of impacted soil was
excavated, and over 9,500 gallons of water had been removed from the excavation by
vacuum truck, at the direction of ATC Associates Inc. (ATC Associates, Inc.,
Summary Report for Subsurface Investigation, Interim Remediation, and Corrective
Action Plan at D'Arcy Parkway -Road Extension, Lathrop, California, dated April 22,
1998).
ATC reported that "the majority of petroleum hydrocarbons present in the soil beneath
the site have been removed," citing the results of the confirmation sampling performed
following their over-excavation activities (ATC, 1998). ATC reported "Soil samples
from the excavation sidewalls at 14 feet bgs and from the excavation bottom at 17 feet
bgs contained nondetectable to low concentrations of TPHd (4.0 ppm) and xylenes
(0.058 ppm)."
Groundworks Environmental,Inc. • 1900 Lafayette Street,Suite 209 • Santa Clara,CA 95050-3946
Telephone (408)327-0110 • Fax (408)327-0119
printed on recycled paper
