Davis Rd.
Stockton CA 95209
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
has reviewed the "Additional Subsurface Investigation Report— Soil and Groundwater
Sampling" dated January 29, 2001 that was submitted by Ground Zero Analysis, Inc. on
behalf of the above referenced site and has the following comments.
The report documents site fieldwork that took place on January 21, 2001, when one soil
boring was advanced for the purpose of collecting a grab groundwater sample for
analysis. This was the final phase of work necessary to complete all proposed and
approved elements of the "Work Plan for Subsurface Investigation" dated July 20, 2000.
Earlier phases of work had identified petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in soil at 10-
feet below surface grade in the area of the former waste oil tank pit. An over excavation
of the former tank pit was performed on November 8, 2000. Analytical results of soil
samples collected from the bottom and sides of the excavation were non-detect for all
petroleum hydrocarbon constituents analyzed, indicating that the bulk of the impacted
soil had been removed.
Analytical results from the grab water sample collected on January 21, 2001 were
positive for several volatile organic compounds, including 17 micrograms/liter(µg11) 1,1-
dichloroethane, 10 µg/l cis-1,2-dichloroethene, 4.4 ttg/l tetrachloroethylene and 16 µg/l
trichloroethane. Please prepare a work plan to define the vertical and lateral extent of
this documented contamination. The work plan should include the installation of at least
three groundwater monitoring wells and a sensitive receptor/well survey that documents
the location of all domestic, municipal, agricultural, industrial or other wells located within
a 2000-foot radius of the source area. If you have any questions or comments please /
call Lori Duncan at (209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Dot lLofstrom, RG
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV
cc: Marty Hartzell, CVRWQCB
Greg Stahl, Ground Zero Analysis, Inc.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
