1.0 INTRODUCTION AND PREVIOUS WORK 0 <br /> 1 The Stockton railyard and fueling facility is located at the end of Diamond Street in the City <br /> of Stockton, San Joaquin County, California Three underground storage tanks were <br /> removed from the facility during the period of October 29 through November 9, 1990 under <br /> pem-ut from the San Joaquin Local Health District The permit application for the tank <br /> removal was submitted to the San Joaquin Local Health District on August 30, 1990 and an <br /> addendum to the pernnit application was submitted on October 6, 1990 <br /> 1 1 TANK REMOVAL <br /> 1 A 2,000-gallon undeigiound tank used for the storage of gasoline, a 10,000-gallon <br /> underground tank used foi the storage of wastewater, and a 26,000-gallon underground tank <br /> used for the stoiage of diesel fuel were removed from the facility A dispenser and piping <br /> was removed from above the gasoline tank, and a remote fill line was iemoved adjacent to the <br /> diesel fuel tank A wastewatei line fiom the fueling platform to the wdstewatei tank was left <br /> in place pending integrity testing It the line passes the test, it will be used as part of a new <br /> wastewater treatment system foi the fueling platform If the line fails, tine line may be • <br /> removed and the soils tested below the line every 20 feet <br /> 2 Soil samples were collected following the removal of the underground tanks The soil <br /> sampling was witnessed by Mi Charles Hunt from San Joaquin County Public Health <br /> Services Soil sarnples were collected approximately 2 feet below the tormei tank bottom <br /> Two soil samples were collected from below the fonnei 2,000-gallon gasoline tank, 2 soil <br /> samples weie collected fiom below the tonnei 10,000-gallon wastewater tank, and 3 soil <br /> samples weie collected from below the former 26,000-gallon diesel tank Figure I shows <br /> the approximate location of the soil samples, and Table 1 shows the laboiatoiy results for the <br /> soil samples <br /> 3 The soil samples fiom below the former 2,000-gallon gasoline tank and from Stockpile 1 <br /> were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline by EPA Method 8015, benzene, <br /> toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) by EPA Method 8020, tetraethyl lead, and <br /> ethylene dibromide by EPA Method 504 Samples ST-IA and ST-1B weie reported to <br /> contain 1 2 mg/kg total petioleurn hydrocarbons as gasoline BTEX, tetraethyl lead and <br /> ethylene dibiomide were ieported below laboratory detection limits of 0 0024, 6, and 0 0006 . <br /> mg/kg, respectively <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS <br />
