(ATC), on behalf of
Diamond Walnut Growers Inc. (DWG) for its Stockton Plant. Monitoring well MW-3 contained
6,600 µg/1 of hexavalent chromium during the first quarter sampling event on 16 January 2002.
The Response Report includes comments on the draft Monitoring and Reporting Program(MRP)
that was sent to you on 12 April 2002. We have the following comments on the Response Report.
1. In the Response Report, ATC requests that we remove chlorodifluoromethane from the list of
-analytes and we have done so. Chlorodifluoromethane may not have contaminated the
groundwater at this location because of the greater depth to groundwater and the compound's .
physical properties. However, in a 10 July 2001 Memorandum from you, this and other
compounds where listed as being used on-site. It is DWG's responsibility to develop an
effective remedial treatment for the groundwater pollution. Thus,DWG must fully
characterize the groundwater so that it can conduct an effective review of treatability options
during the feasibility study. The presence of other pollutants may negatively influence
optimization of a future selected remedy.
2. The MRP is a Regional Board Order issued by the Executive Officer. You may request
modifications to the MRP and a Board staff will develop a revised MRP. However, the
Executive Officer must approve the revised MRP before changes are implemented.
California Environmental Protection Agency
Qd Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real. Every Californian needs to take immediate action to reduce energy consumption. For a list of
simple ways you can reduce demand and cut your energy costs, see our Web-site at bttp://www.swreb.ca.gov/mgcb5
