(ATC), on behalf of Diamond Walnut Growers Inc. (DWG) for its
Stockton Plant. We discussed many of the elements of this WP during a site tour on 28 August,
which Ms. Jeanne Homsey of ATC also attended. The WP is approved as amended.
We have the following comments on the monitoring report.
1. In the conclusion section of the monitoring report, ATC states `only the sample collected
from MW-3 contained hexavalent chromium in excess of the California Primary MCL of
0.05 mg/l, with a concentration of 9.00 mg/l." The California Primary MCL cited here is for
total chromium. A California MCL for hexavalent chromium is being developed, but not yet
inplace.
2. The groundwater contours in the monitoring report use water levels from an onsite facility
well designated FW. Please provide construction details about well FW, which are necessary
to determine if it is apopriate to include it in the monitoring well network to establish a
groundwater gradient. With the next quarterly monitoring,DWG must also begin monitoring
FW for hexavalent chromium.
The field work is scheduled to be completed in December. According to the WP, DWG will
submit a site characterization report by 27 February 2002.
