INTRODUCTION <br /> ' Weiss Associates (WA) is pleased to submit this Phase II work plan for soil and ground <br /> water sampling and analysis at the Diamond Walnut Growers, Inc (DWG) processing plant at <br /> 1050 South Diamond Street in Stockton, California (Figure 1) <br /> The objective of the WA Phase I site investigation conducted 1n December 1988 and this <br /> proposed Phase II investigation is part of closure activities for five underground storage vaults <br /> at the DWG site <br /> ' Accordingto the San Joaquin Local Health District SJLHD the California <br /> 4 ( )� <br /> Administrative Code Title 23 Waters,Chapter 3 Water Resources Control Board, Subchapter <br /> 16 Underground Storage Tank Regulations (Title 23) closure requirements are applicable for <br /> this site and include either <br /> • Removing the vaults, or <br /> • Abandoning the vaults in place by filling them with grout <br /> ' The WA Phase I investigation and this proposal Phase II investigation will characterize <br /> subsurface conditions beneath the vaults and help determine the appropriate closure <br /> ' alternative Since the Phase I investigation indicated released chemicals in soil beneath three <br /> of the five site storage vaults, the purpose of this Phase II investigation is to further <br />' characterize the extent and degree of soil contamination beneath the three storage vaults and <br /> to assess theyground water quality downgradient of these vaults <br />' The site background,proposed Phase I1 subsurface investigation,and the proposed project <br /> schedule are discussed in the following sections <br /> e <br />' D \ALL\331DWG\331P1SE0 WP Page 4 <br />
