GEOMATRIX
particulates. Duplicate samples from borings GB-4 and GB-5 were also analyzed without the
laboratory filtering; a duplicate sample from GB-1 was not analyzed without laboratory
' filtering because of insufficient sample volume due to sample container breakage during
transport to the laboratory. Sample extracts for TPHd analyses were cleaned up with silica gel
' by EPA Method 3630 prior to analyses to remove polar biogenic materials.
Following sampling, the boreholes were grouted from the bottom to within three feet of the
' surface with cement-bentonite grout mixture.
4.0 ANALYTICAL RESULTS
' The following paragraphs describe the analytical results of the soil and groundwater samples
collected during this investigation. The analytical results for soil and groundwater are
summarized in Tables 1 and 2, respectively.
' Soil Samples
TPHc was detected in three of the eight soil borings (GB-1, GB-2, and GB-3) at concentrations
' up to 3600 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg). Benzene was not detected in any of the samples.
Toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes were either not detected or were detected sporadically at
' low concentrations. Low concentrations of several PAHs were detected in samples from three
of the eight soil borings (GB-1, GB-2, and GB-3). Soil analytical results are summarized in
Table 1.
' Groundwater Samples
No benzene was detected in the grab groundwater samples collected from any of the three
sampling locations (GB-1, GB-4, and GB-5). Low concentrations of toluene, ethylbenzene,
and/or xylenes were detected in the grab groundwater samples collected from two of the
' sampling locations. PAHs were only detected in the groundwater sample collected from GB-1,
installed directly within the affected soil. The detected PAHs were acenaphthene (1.3
' micrograms per liter [µg/1]), flourene (3.4 µg/1), pyrene (0.3 µg/1), and chrysene(0.2 gg/1).
TPHg was detected only in the grab groundwater sample collected from GB-1 at a
\\sf2\deptdata\Doc_Safe\4780\sur1drpt.doc 4
