1
I
03 January 1996
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0197
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals beginning at 15 feet below site grade (bsg) using
a Geoprobe soil sampling assembly and four 1.125-inch diameter brass sleeves. The second brass E
sleeve will be removed and the ends covered with Teflon tape or aluminum sheets, sealed with plastic
end caps, secured with, tape, and immediately placed in a chilled container for transportation to a
State-certified laboratory. Each sample sleeve will be labeled with the following: boring location, a
depth, time, date and sampler's initials.
Soils will be described using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Soil sample descriP tions
and PID screening results would be summarized on boring logs'prepared for the final report.
Grab ground water samples will be collected from selected probings using a Geoprobe water sampling t
assembly and a peristaltic pump. The samples will be collected in 40-m1 VOA vials and 1-liter amber
bottles and placed-in a chilled container for transportation to 'a State-certified laboratory. Each ;
sample will be labeled with the following: boring location, depth, time, date and sampler's initials.
3.2. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
i
All sampling tools and brass sleeves used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after washing' with a solution of Alconox. All Geoprobe rods will be cleaned prior to
advancement in each"probing.
3.3. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-
g), total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel (TPH-d), and volatile aromatics (benzene,
toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylene: BTE&X) in accordance with EPA methods 8015, 8015M and
8020, respectively.
Grab ground water samples will be analyzed for TPH-g, TPH-d and BTE&X in accordance with EPA
methods 5030/8015in and 602.
4.0. PROCEDURES
4.1. COLLECTION OF SOIL SAMPLES
For collection of soil'samples, the following procedures will be performed:
1. Notify the San Joaquin County PHS-EHD 48 hours prior to commencement of any work.
5
