EXCEITECH
41674 CHRISTY STREET FREMONT, CA 94538
PHONE (415) 659-0404 • CONTR. LIC. NO. 464324
November 16, 1987
Mr. Larry Hardison
Stockton Service Station
Equipment Company, Inc.
P.O. Box 508
Stockton, CA 95201
Re: Proposal for Soil Sampling Plan Beneath Subsurface Storage Tank
Exceltech Quote No. 6504G
Dear Mr. Hardison:
This letter presents our proposal to drill two (2) exploratory borings and collect soil samples for
analysis at 4491 West Durham Ferry Road in Tracy, California. The purpose of the sampling is to
acertain whether or not leakage has occurred in an in-place 1,000 gallon subsurface gasoline storage
tank. It is our understanding that the soil sampling is required for an in-place tank closure, and the
San Joaquin Local Health district requires two (2) samples be the collected.
Two exploratory borings will be drilled under the tank at approximately a 45-degree angle. The
borings will be drilled perpendicular to the tank axis, one at each end, so that the bottom of the boring
will be directly under the tank. Soil samples will be collected at five foot intervals during drilling
using a modified California sampler equipped with brass liners. Samples will be logged, sealed with
foil, capped, and packed in ice for transport to the laboratory. All cuttings will be drummed; disposal
of cutting is the client's responsibility. The borehole will be backfilled with grout upon completion.
The lowermost sample from each boring (collected from approximately 2 feet beneath the tank
bottom) will be analyzed for Total Volatile Hydrocarbons and Benzene, Toluene and Xylenes at a state-
certified analytical laboratory using EPA-approved methods. Exceltech will prepare a letter report
complete with sample location, borehole log and copy of the chemical analysis report. The above work
is proposed for a fixed fee of - It is our understanding that the boring site is easily
accessible and not obstructed by overhead wires and underground utilities, and the price is dependent
upon this assumption.
The San Joaguin County Local Health District will need to review this proposed soil sampling plan
prior to starting work. A drilling date will be designated when the permit is approved. We will advise
you of the date at that time.
If you have any questions, please contact our office.
Sincerely,
EXCELTECH, INC.
Stephen Costello Christopher M. Palmer, C.E.G. 1262
Staff Geologist Manager, Geotechnical Services
SC/CMP/da
I
