The groundwater sampling event was completed on
October 19. I am currently waiting for the results of sample analysis to be forwarded
by the lab. As the long-awaited pilot test should be under way in the near term, I
would like to include the results of this sampling event in a combined
Sampling/Pilot Test Results Report. Leet me ]snow if you would rather see the
results of sampling in a separate transmittal.
Speaking of the pilot test, I requested that the Clearwater field scientist that visited
the Ruiz site on October 19 take a moment to check on the potential yield status of
the recovery well. As you recall, the well did not appear capable of producing a
significant quantity of groundwater before or immediately after development. As a
result of these observations, modifications were made to the originally proposed
scope of pilot testing work. Regardless of plans in the original and modified testing
plan, I felt it prudent to take a moment to confirm that the well would continue to
yield only a low sustained flow of water.
The results of the recent visit were unexpected. The recovery well appeared capable
of providing approximately 1-2 gallons of water a minute. Evers.considering all we
have gone through to get to this paint, I think it would be wise to reconsider some
of the elements of the planned test. The elements of reconsideration, as I see it, are
as follows:
,X a As the recovery well now. seems capable of producing enough water to conduct a
\`1' f' more standard pumping test (without an applied vacuum), I believe it would be
appropriate to re-include such an activity into the considered scope.
• As the utility, of a combined soil/vapor remedial approach is still worth
considering, a portion of the test should remain dedicated to the dual phase test
we described in the workplan addendum.
