MAY 09 '95 04:01PM CLEARWATER GROUP P.2!4
CLEARWATEr
U R D U n, I N C.
Ms. NIary Meays May 9, 1995
Senior Lead REHS
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Department
P.C.box 388
Stockton,CA. 95201-0388
Re: Ruiz Grocery Store, 4491 West Durham Ferry Road, Tracy
Dear Ms.Meays,
The purpose of this Ietter is to provide detail associated with proposed modifications .
to -the approved scope of pilot testing work. The following information builds on
our recent conversations, and includes a report of recent field activity, as well as a ,
basis'for the proposed modifications.
Results.of Preliminary Testing
Clearwater mobilized to the subject site several weeks ago for the purpose of
completing a well yield test. The purpose of this test was the attainment of
information that would have enabled the selection, of the most appropriate
,groundwater extraction test pump, as well as information required for the provision
of adequate storage capacity for extracted water storage. The test was to be completed
using an electric submersible pump, with recovered water to be stored in drums.
-Due to the rate of water recharge, the test was actually completed using a hand
bailer.
As I indicated in my transmittal dated May 1, the recently installed recovery well did
not produce a significant quantity of water during our pre-test. I believe that this
observation is.a resuit of a poorly transmissive formation, although a contributing
factor may be a marginalfilter pack. Flowing sands were encountered during well
installation, and the installation of the most appropriate amount of gravel around
the well screen was consequently made more difficult.
'Clearwater also measured the levels of oxygen in the soil vapor captured by the
vapor extraction. wells (tinder non--extzaction conditions). Observations indicated
that only low levels of oxygen existed under these static, conditions,
1125 AtMantic Avenue Suite 102 9 A2au*da+Caiifo •94501•(510)337-$730 Fax(510)525.09M
