San Joaquin Street
Stockton, California 95201
Re: Analytical Results for Soil Samples Collected During the Removal of
a 1 ,000-gallon Underground Storage Tank at 103 North E Street,
Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Turkatte:
The purpose of this letter is to discuss the analytical results and hopefully
resolve the issue of additional soil sampling at the former location of a
1 ,000-gallon underground storage tank. This tank was removed from the
A. Teichert & Sons, Inc. (Teichert) facility located at 103 North E Street,
Stockton, California, in the spring of 1991. Based on the reported detec-
tion of toluene in two soil samples from the base of the tank excavation
when the tank was removed, you have expressed concern regarding the
possibility of additional soil impact at depth.
Table 1 presents the analytical data for the two soil samples collected
when the tank was excavated and removed. The certified analytical
reports are attached. Two analyses were performed on the soil samples.
The first analysis was for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, and
total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline consistent with analytical proce-
dures documented in the Leaking Underground Fuel Tanks Manual.
Based on the reported presence of toluene, Teichert requested that the
soil samples be analyzed by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Method 8260 to confirm the presence of the toluene detected in the first
round of analytical testing.
p#V90V900202
1433 N.
