The annular space between the pipe and the wall of the
boring will be backfilled with a clean sand to a minimum of two feet above
the top of the perforation. A two-fcot bentonite plug would be placed
above the sand pack as a seal against surface water infiltration. The
remaining annulus would be backfilled with a cement-bentonite slurry to
grade. The well would be placed inside a steel-locking well cover or
Cristy Box to discourage vandalism, or tampering. A typical monitoring
I well diagram is included at the end of this proposal. Initially one
monitoring well is proposed. Based on results of soil and water sampling
and screening, more wells may be required.
Well DeyQlooment_and Sampling
Before sampling the monitoring well should be developed to remove mud
and Eines generated by drilling operations. The well would be developed
by an air-lift development tool and surging. After development, the
formation will be allowed to stabilize for at least one week before
sampling.
A water sample would be collected from the monitoring well after three
to five well volumes have been removed, and parameters of temperature, pH
and conductivity have s;t.abilized., JHK&A maintains a ground water sampling
truck with the instrumentation, sampling and decontamination equipment
necessary for the collection of an unbiased water sample.
Sample A11allysia
soil and water samples will be transported under chain-of-custody to a
State approved testing laboratory. We recommend the soil and water
samples be analyzed for total hydrocarbons (GC/FID) and benzene, toluene
and xylene. Based on field screening with the PID, we recommend the
sample with the highest reading from each boring be submitted for
laboratory analysis. Should no organic volatiles be detected with the
PTD, the deepest soil sample above the water table from each boring should
be submitted to verify the absence of petroleum hydrocarbons.
Report Prgparation
The report will be based on the information obtained from this
investigation. It should be stressed that this is a preliminary
-- -- --=investigation-and that -more-soilborings--and-monitoring wells may-be -- -. - —----
necessary to characterize this,. site. To perform this investigation we
would require the following from A. Teichert & Sons, Inc.
