COMPUTATION SHEET
' PROJECT TITLE: PROJECT NO. OF90-002.01
DESCRIPTION: Flow Rate from Pitot Formula SHEET 1 OF 2
PREP. BY: DATE: CHKD BY: DATE:
BASIS OF CALCULATION
' The following is a sample calculation which illustrates the calculation procudure for
determining air flow rate from picot tube data
ASSUMPTIONS
' 1. 2-inch diameter schedule 40 steel pipe has internal diameter of 2.067 inches.
2. Soil vapor passing pitot tube is in turbulent flow such that the center-line velocity
is equal to the average velocity.
' 3. Atmospheric pressure is constant at approximately 30 inches of mercury.
4. Soil vapor is ideal gas.
5. Soil vapor density is equal to that of pure air.
' VARIABLES
Tp = Temperature of soil vapor passing pitot tube
V = Vacuum exerted on soil vapor passing pitot tube
Vp = Velocity pressure measured by pitot tube
Q = Flow rate of soil vapor
' u = Velocity of soil vapor passing pitot tube
A = Cross-sectional area of pipe
D = Diameter of pipe
' e = Density of soil vapor
Pb = Absolute static pressure of soil vapor passing pitot tube
T = Absolute temperature of soil vapor passing pitot tube
1
1
dlb/h:calcs.xis
