1
i
i Appendix A
HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN
1
i Health and Safety Plan
i EMCON Associates has reviewed this project and other similar projects to
develop the following site-specific safety plan. The safety plan will be pre-
sented to all personnel conducting field work at the initial on-site health
iand safety meeting.
Project Safety Authority
iStaff members responsible for project safety are:
Project Manager: Robert H. Husk
Project Safety Coordinator: Phillip R. Graham
On-site Safety Coordinator: Diana Buchanan
iThe Project Manager is responsible for the dissemination of the informa-
tion contained in this plan to all EMCON Associates personnel assigned to
' the project, and to the responsible representative of each subcontractor
firm working under EMCON Associates on the project. The Project Safety
Coordinator is responsible for the development of the health and safety
procedures described in this plan. The On-site Safety Coordinator is
responsible for the enforcement of all policies and practices of this safety
' plan.
Job Hazard and Risk Assessment
It is anticipated that gasoline, diesel, and associated aromatic compounds
may be encountered during drilling and sampling. The aromatic com-
pounds that may be encountered include benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,
and xylene. Benzene is of primary toxicological significance because it is a
documented carcinogen, causing leukemia in humans. The Occupational
Safety and Health Administration's permissible exposure limit is 1 part per
PAV92V920201 a A - 1 Rev. 0 June 1, 1992
