John Pestana QTIP Trust
10' Page 3
Measurements of the soil vapor in the samples from the bonngs ranged from zero to a maximum of
421 parts per million (ppm) in HB 11 at 8 feet Soil descriptions are included in the field notes in
Attachment B
Soil Sample Analysis
Soil samples were submitted under chain of custody protocol to Argon Laboratories Samples
collected from bonngs HBI through HB7 were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasohne
and diesel (TPHG and TPHD, respectively) using modified EPA method 8015, and benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, total xylenes (BTEX), and methyl tert-butyl ether using EPA method 8020
Additionally, the sample from HB 1 was analyzed for total oil and grease (TOG) using EPA method
3550/5520
Soil samples collected from bongs HD through HBII were forwarded by Argon under chain of
custody protocol to Sequoia Analytical and analyzed for fuel fingerprint using EPA modified method
8015, as well as TPHG, BTEX and MTBE Also, extracts of the soil samples collected from bongs
HB 1,HB4, and HB5 were later forwarded to Sequoia by Argon for fuel fingerprint analyses
. Soil Sample Results
Standard Analyses
The soil sample collected from HBI, adjacent to the former waste oil UST, contained 950 parts per
million (ppm) TOG while TPHG, TPHD, BTEX, and MTBE were not detected Low to moderate
levels ofgasohne hydrocarbons were detected in samples collected from borings HB2 (4 0 ppm TPHG,
0 057 ppm benzene) and HB3 (900 ppm TPHG, <0 20 ppm benzene), near the former product Ines,
and from bongs HB4 (36 ppm TPHG, 0 013 ppm benzene), HB5 (290 ppm TPHG, <0 10 ppm
benzene), and HB6 (400 ppm TPHG, <0 10 ppm benzene), near the former USTs TPHD was
detected only in the sample from HB6 at 7 5 feet (75 ppm) No petroleum constituents were detected
in bong HB7, located west of the former USTs and pump island MTBE was not detected in any
sample Soil analytical data are summarized in Table 1 Laboratory reports are included in
Attachments C (Argon)and D(Sequoia)
Gasoline hydrocarbon constituents in soil borings located along the northern boundary of the site
ranged from non detect in borings HB8 and HB9 (excepting 0 010 ppm xylenes in HB9) to relatively
high levels in HBI I (1200 ppm TPHG, 12 ppm benzene) MTBE was not detected in any sample
Soil analytical data are summarized in Table 1 Laboratory reports are included in Attachments C
(Argon)and D(Sequoia)
Fuel Fingerprint Analyses
The fuel fingerprint analyses perfonned on the soil sample collected from boring HB I I indicated 1100
pestana 0361sunvpLdoc
