WALLACE - KUHL Err ASSOCIATES,INC.
SUBSURFACE SOILS EVALUATION
U.S. SPRINT
6855 W. Eight Mile Road
Stockton, California
WKA No. 1004.41
INTRODUCTION
Purpose and Scope
We have completed a subsurface soils evaluation at the subject property located at 6855 W.
Eight Mile Road. The purpose of our investigation was to evaluate the soils in the area of the
previously existing 8000-gallon underground diesel tank and product line for potential petroleum
'$. hydrocarbon contamination.
The scope of our work included the drilling and sampling of soil borings B1 and B2 at the
location of the former underground tank. Two additional shallow soil borings (B3 and B4) were
placed along the former product line location. Boring locations are shown on Plate 1.
A soil sample was obtained at the base of each boring using a modified California sampler
containing two-inch diameter brass tubes cleaned with trisodium phosphate. A ground water
sample was retrieved from boring B1 with a disposable plastic bailer. Soil samples were sealed
with aluminum caps and wrapped with tape. All samples were preserved on ice and submitted
under chain-of-custody to a certified analytical laboratory for analysis of total petroleum
' hydrocarbons (TPH) and benzene, toluene, xylene and ethyl benzene (BTX&E). Following
sampling, all borings were backfilled with a four-sack cement grout. All on-site field work was
performed under the supervision of Kasey Foley of the San Joaquin County Public Health
' Services - Environmental Health Division (PHS-EHD).
Site Description and Histor
The subject property is northwest of Stockton, California, in a rural area composed primarily of
t ' land used for agricultural purposes. The northern portion of the property is bounded by a river
levee. A relay station for the U.S. Sprint Corporation is currently present on the site. The station
rests on an elevated building pad approximately ten feet above surrounding grades. The
elevated pad was constructed in 1984 with imported fill material. An underground diesel tank
was installed on the site as a fuel source for the station's emergency generator (see Plate 1).
r
3050 INDUSTRIAL BOULEVARD PO BOX 1 137 WEST SACRAMENTO, CA 95691 (916)372-1434 • FAX(916)372-2565
