11 April 2003
AGE-NC Project No 01-0865
initials The preserved samples were logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled container
and subsequently transported to CTEL for analysis The ground water samples were analyzed for the
same chemical constituents as the soil samples (see Section 2 3 )
2 6 EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
Pnor to sample collection, Geoprobe soil and ground water sampling equipment was thoroughly
rinsed with clean water after washing with a solution of Alconox Geoprobe rods were thoroughly
cleaned prior to soil probe boring advancement
3.0. FINDINGS
Soil descriptions from boring logs for B 11,B 12 and B 13, supplemented with soil descriptions from
previous site investigations, were utilized to construct the site geological model, laboratory analysis
of soil and ground water samples were utilized to assess the petroleum-hydrocarbon impact on soil
and ground water
3 1 SOIL PROFILE
Borings BI I and B12 were advanced at the former USTs location at the eastern edge of the levee
(Figure 2) The upper 2 feet of core(between 10 and 12 feet bsg) consisted of a dry, brown, poorly-
sorted coarse-grained sand, an approximately 1-foot whitish pebble zone encountered at
approximately 12 feet bsg may be road-base material from a previous levee surface Dry to moist,
tan to dark brown silty sand with gravel was encountered from 14 to 18 feet bsg Moist to saturated
black peat was recovered between 18 and 35 feet bsg, an approximately 2-foot thick, porous zone
of black peat encountered between 25 and 27 feet bsg appeared to be composed of fibrous,root-like
material Moist to saturated, olive green, well-sorted to silty fine sand was encountered from 35 to
45 5 feet bsg, and stiff and hard, olive green-blue clay was observed from 45 5 feet to total depth at
46 feet bsg
Boring B 13,located at the base of the levee(Figure 2),consisted of saturated black peat from surface
grade to approximately 16 feet bsg A moist to saturated, grayish green interval consisting of inter-
bedded medium sand and silty fine sand was encountered from 16 feet bsg to 24 feet bsg Underlying
the sandy layer was a 2-foot section of dry to moist, olive green silty clay, followed by a basal silt
to total depth at 26 feet bsg Boring logs are included in Appendix B
Advanced GeoEnwronmental,Inc
