PHSIEHD has the following
comments for your consideration.
The recently reported depth to water beneath the site was approximately 23 feet
below ground surface (bgs). During the investigation and remediation of the site,
the depth to water has been as low as 41 .3 feet bgs. Thank you for including the
information which Enviros had regarding well construction details. Information in
the PHSIEHD file indicates that some of the wells for which the construction details
were unavailable, were drilled in April 1991 by Spectrum. MW5 was screened
between 29.5 and 49.5 feet bgs and the vapor extraction wells, VEW1- VEW3
were screened between 5 and 30 feet bgs. The vapor extraction well, VEW4, was
drilled on November 11 , 1991 and sampled to 33 feet bgs. Please note that MW1
was installed September 21 , 1991 instead of November 8, 1991 .
The groundwater sample from RW1 and MW5 (8260) collected on August 25,
1996 did not undergo analysis until September 9, 1996, exceeding the 14 day
holding period. Gasoline constituents were however detected in MW4 (1 ppb
benzene and 15 ppb MTBE) MW5 (50 ppb MTBE) and VEW3 (4.0 ppb MTBE).
MTBE could not be identified in samples from RW2, MW2, MW3 and the duplicate
sample due to coelution with t-1,2-DCE.
The vapor extraction well, VEW2, was reported dry; however, information available
indicates that the well was constructed to 30 feet. PHSIEHD recommends further
investigation into potential obstructions of this well. Given the current depth to
groundwater, the vapor extraction wells are the only wells which are constructed
with screened intervals above and below the current groundwater level. Also,
further investigation regarding the reported presence of t-1,2-DCE is warranted.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
