In September of 1989, ERM west of Sacramento, California conducted a Phase I
. Environmental Site Assessment of the property. This site assessment concluded
that soil testing within the former UST excavation and a tank test of the
existing waste oil UST be conducted.
As previously mentioned, Kleinfelder Inc. conducted a soil-gas survey in the
vicinity of the former UST excavation in May of 1990 and performed a precision
tank test of the existing waste oil UST at the C.M. Weber property in June of
1990.
i The soil-gas sampling survey was conducted by extracting and analyzing fifteen
soil-gas samples in and adjacent to the former UST excavation. Theses amples
were analyzed for total purgeable petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), and benzene,
toluene, xylene, and ethylbenzene (BTX&E) by gas chromatography. Concentration
>.- levels of TU up to 28 000 ug/1 of air were found in the former excavation
indicating the presence of gasoline vapors in the soil. fine soil-gas sample
obtained near the i e tren —out—side the former excavation contained a TPH
con tionev' indicatn ossible leaks a rom a asoiine
su p!g, pipes m the pumps. A copy of the eine er Inc. report an e
soy -gas ra resu s with an interpretive contour map of the TPN
concentrations is included in Appendix A.
The waste oil UST failed a tank precision test on ,lune 1, 1990, an indication
+ ` that the tank may have baen leaking at that time. No other records of precision
tank tests or,'the waste oil UST were found to indicate how long the tank may have
been leaking. No soil samples were taken at that time to verify if the tank was f
.. indeed leaking and had impacted the soils beneath the site. On June S, 1990, the
contents of the waste nil UST were pumped from the UST and properly disposed of
off-site.
J 6
