05 February 1996
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0135
2.3. GROUND WATER DEPTH AND FLOW DIRECTION
Ground water was not encountered during the UST removal. Based upon the San Joaquin County
Flood Control Map Lines of Equal Depth in Water Wells- 1993, ground water depth in the area of
the site is approximately 35 to 40 feet below surface grade. Ground water flow direction varies
locally; however, regional flow direction is east-northeast.
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
3.1. BORING/PROBING ADVANCEMENT
AGE proposes to initially advance six soil probings at the site to determine the lateral and vertical
extent of hydrocarbon-impacted soil and/or ground water. Probings will be advanced using a
Geoprobe 5400 probing unit equipped with 1.125-inch probing rods. Each probing will be advanced
to a depth of 35 feet.
One probing will be advanced within the former UST excavation on the northern portion of the
property. A second probing will be advanced at an angle of approximately 25' from horizontal
beneath the on-site structure, immediately southwest of the former UST excavation. Four additional
probings will be advanced north, east and west of the former UST excavation.
Discrete soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals using a Geoprobe soil sampling assembly
and four pre-cleaned brass sleeves. Upon sample retrieval, the ends of the second brass sleeve will
be covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Samples will be placed in a chilled
container and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to a State-certified laboratory. Each
sample sleeve will be labeled with the following: boring location, depth, time, date and sampler's
initials.
Grab ground water samples will be collected from three of the soil probings using a Geoprobe water
sampling assembly. Samples will be collected in 40-m1 VOA vials labeled, placed in a chilled
container and transported under chain-of-custody to a State-certified laboratory.
3.2. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools and brass sleeves used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after washing with a solution of Alconox. All probing rods-will be cleaned prior to
advancement at each probing location.
