is
Firestone Tire and Rubber Company Pap 3
Stockton, CA., Soil Sampling Results
TAULM 4,
i E3
Additional soils were excavated from the existing excavation to a depth of 13 feet.
At the request of Lhe PHS, two soil samples were taken:bottoin of the excavation
at 13 feet below grade, and on the north wall of the excavation"at 11 feet. Soil
samples were analyzed for rf?Hand PCBs. The PCB analysis was requested in
the field by the PHS inspector, Harlin Knoll.
d
Each soil sample was taken by driving a 'pre-cleaned brass tube into undisturbed
soils within the excavation. After soil samples wt,.e taken, each brass tube was
sealed with teflon tape, capped,'logged, and placed on ice.
Diesel coacentrations were reported in minor concentrations. in both samples;
ranging from 2.1 to 2.4 mgikg. PCBs were not reported by thi laboratory. Based
on the laboratory results there appears to be no significant hydrocarbon release
from the Tank 16 site.
I. Tank sites 6 and 16 (and Previous tanks 8 through 15)require no additional
soil analysis or resampling Work. These tank sites should be backfilled;
compacted to PHS and San Joaquin County density stand irds, and reported
as Closed.
2. The additional soil sampling work has confirmed the Work Plan assumption
that the apparent tank releases are localized at the Tank 5 site. Based on the
Work Plan, the recomm nded remediation alternative for the Tank 5 site is
excavation of soils.
M
After soil excavation, the side'walls and bottom of the excavation at Tank 5 site
will be sampled and analyzed for TPH and BTX&E
Ij
