groundwater assessment conducted at MW-4 only In the event that wells MW-5, 6 and 7 are <br /> necessary and installed more than 90 days later than MW-4, a separate report of assessment <br /> will be produced for those locations <br />' Implementation of the Site Assessment Workplan and preparation of the supplementary PIER <br /> will be managed by a State of California Registered Geologist <br />' 3.1 FIELD METHODS AND SAMPLING PROCEDURES <br /> All borehole drilling, soil sampling and groundwater monitoring well construction activities will be <br /> conducted using hollow-stem auger drilling and sampling equipment and techniques Frontier <br /> Drilling, Modesto, California, will provide the drilling and soil sampling equipment, and all <br /> materials needed to install the monitoring wells Frontier Drilling holds a current, valid C-57 well <br />' driIler's license <br /> Underground utilities will be located by Underground Services Alert (USA) prior to <br /> commencing field activities The Site will be cleared of all obstructions by the Owner to <br />' allow unobstructed access All field personnel will be 40 Hour OSHA trained <br /> 3.1.3 DRILLING AND MONITORING WELL CONSTRUCTION <br />' Drilling and construction of the groundwater monitoring wells will be in accordance with the <br /> provisions of the State of California Water Resources Control Board Standards, specifically as <br /> provided in the LUFT Manual The procedures to be used will be as follows <br /> Drilling equipment will be thoroughly steam-cleaned with clear water prior to drilling <br /> each well bore Rmsate will be placed in 55 gallon drums and securely stored on the <br />' Site Figure 8 illustrates the location of the drum storage area Each drum will be <br /> labeled with date of accumulation, street address,contents of the drum, owner, and a <br /> contact phone number Offsite treatment/disposal will take place within 90 days of <br />' the accumulation date, or upon receipt of laboratory analyses, and will be the <br /> responsibility of the Owner <br /> • Each well bore will be logged in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification <br />' System All well bore logs will be prepared under the supervision of a California <br /> State-registered geologist <br />' a Soil samples for analyses will be collected every 5 feet, or at significant changes in <br /> lithology, beginning at a depth of 2 feet below ground surface to immediately above <br /> groundwater <br />' 0 Soil samples will be collected using a California split-spoon drive sampler lined with <br /> three,2-inch by 6-mch brass tube liners Soil collected in the first, or tip, liner will be <br /> preserved for analyses Care will be taken to assure that no headspace is present in <br />' the liner following sample collection Soil collected in the second liner will be <br /> screened with a portable Photo Ionization Detection instrument(FID) or equivalent <br /> instrument for organic vapor concentrations The measured values will be entered on <br /> the well bore log The contents of the third liner will be extruded and logged in <br /> accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System <br /> • Immediately after a sample is collected, each end of the brass liner that contains the <br /> soil sample to be preserved for analyses will be covered with Teflon tape or <br /> 366-002 -6- <br />
