29 July 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0426
Piping removal, probing and sampling was described in the Preliminary Investigation and
Evaluation Report, dated 26 March 1999 and prepared by AGE.
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
Based on the results of laboratory analysis of soil samples collected during previous site assessment
activities, the PHS-EHD is requiring additional assessment to determine the hydrocarbon-impact to
ground water.
Three ground water monitoring wells will be installed at the site and soil sampling performed. The
monitoring wells will subsequently be purged and sampled. Additional wells may be installed based
upon findings of the outlined investigation. Tasks for the investigation of the extent of petroleum
hydrocarbons in ground water at the site are described below.
3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the PHS-EHD. Prior to mobilization, the
soil boring locations will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained through Underground
Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
AGE proposes to advance three soil borings in the vicinity of the former USTs and fuel dispenser
islands. Additional borings may subsequently be advanced, based upon the outlined investigation.
Proposed boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2.
Borings will be advanced to total depths of approximately 35 feet bsg. Soil samples will be collected
from each boring at five-foot intervals beginning at 15 feet bsg at the UST location and beginning
at a depth of 5 feet bsg in the remaining two borings. Field procedures for advancement of borings
and collection of soil samples are presented in Sections 4.1. and 4.2.
3.3. MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION AND DEVELOPMENT
Each boring will be completed as a ground water monitoring well with 20 feet of screened section
installed across the observed water table level. Based on the estimated current ground water level
at the site of 20 feet bsg,the total depth of the monitoring wells will be approximately 35 feet bsg.
Advanced CeoEnvironmental,Inc.
