SITE SAFETY PLAN <br /> FACILITY BACKGROUND <br /> THE PROJECT SITE (FORMER REGAL STATION 604 ) IS LOCATED AT 1448 N. <br /> EL DORADO STREET IN STOCkTON, CALIFORNIA. WEGE WAS PESENT DURING <br /> THE EXHUMATION AND REMOVAL OF 5 GASOLINE STORAGE TANKS. THE TANwS <br /> REMOVED WERE IN SERVICE FOR APPROXIMATELY 26 YEARS DISPENSING <br /> GASOLINE FUELS FROM UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANKS. At THOUGH THE <br /> INTEGRITY (holes, etc. ) OF THE TANKS WAS GOOD, PETROLEUM <br /> HYDROCARBONS HAVE BEEN DETECTED IN THE SOIL DURING THE TANK <br /> REMOVAL. <br /> IN ORDER TO ASSESS AND DOCUMENT THE PRESENCE OF PETROLEUM <br /> CONTAMINATION IN SITE SOILS AND/OR GROUND WATER , WEGE WAS SUB- <br /> CONTRACTED BY WICKLAND OIL COMPANY (WOC) TO 1) COLLECT SOIL & WATER <br /> SAMPLES, 2) MONITOR SOIL, WATER, AND AIR (ambient) CONCURRENT WITH <br /> DRILLING OPERATIONS. <br /> KEY PERSONNEL AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br /> MR. JACK NAPPER, REGISTERED GEOLOGIST, WILL ACT AS PROJECT <br /> (SUPERVISOR. MR. NAPPER HAS COMPLETED NUMEROUS PETROLEUM <br /> CONTAMINATION ANALYSES THROUGHOUT THE CENTRAL VALLEY AND NORTHERN <br /> CALIFORNIA. MR. THE EXTREME <br /> FLAMMABILITN OF GASOLINE IS COMMONLY KNOWN. THE LOWER EXPLOSION <br /> LIMIT (LEL) OF GASOLINE VAPOR IS 1.3 PERCENT IN AIR. IF THE [ t' <br /> CONCENTRATION OF GASOLINE VAPOR IN AIR EXCEEDS 1.3 PERCENT (13,U3. <br /> PARTS PER MILLION) AND SUFFICIENT QUANTITIES OF OXYGEN ARE <br /> PRESENT, THEN THE INTRODUCTION OF SUFFICIENT HEAT, SPARK, OR FLAME <br /> WILL RESULT IN AN EXPLOSION. A LESSER KNOWN HEALTH HAZARD <br /> RESULTING FROM EXPOSURE TO GASOLINE IS TOXICITY. SEVERAL COMMON <br /> CONSTITUENTS or GASOLINE HAVE BEEN LINKED TO VARIP'JS HEALTH <br /> PROBLEMS. THE CONSTITUENTS OF GASOLINE THAT HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO <br /> CAUSE SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS RESULTING FROM RELATIVELY MINOR <br /> EXPOSURES INCLUDE BENZENE, TOLUENE, meta. para, and Ortho XYLENES, <br /> ETHYL BENZENE, AND TETRAETHYL LEAD. <br />
