55\CYLOPURO.DOC
+ condensate tank to help increase the reduction of hydrocarbons to
let the charcoal. The following occurred:
a
1. Bypassing the orifice plate manifold decreased the
vacuum at the pump and increased the vacuum at the wells
as follows in mm Hg.
through orifice bypass orifice %increases/decreaise
_ -- - - - . -
total 68 58 -14.7
mwl 38 46 +17.4
mw5 52 53 +1.9
ex 51 48 -5.9
pl 51 55 +7.3
P3 51 52 +1.9
2. After the pump, was placed at the influent of the
condensate tank a steady stream of condensate was
produced (2 gallons in 2.5 hrs or .8 gallons/hr) .
3. No reduction in hydrocarbons were occuring in v..sor
stream at the effluent as compared to the influent
sample, condensate tank set at 570F.
4. Condesate produced from pressure increased in
concentrations of hydrocarbons by 18.2%. and is 3 times
greater in concentration than MW1 (MW5 water was to low
to obtain sample) .
J
5. A flow rate of 72 cfm can be achieved with MW1, MW5, EX,
P1 and P3 all aide open, but limited flow will be
achieved from Pl and P3.
Partiallyo enin MW1 and MW5 and leaving ESI, P1 and P3
6. wide opeinfluences the entire area of remediation.
7. The following vacuums are occuring at the perimeter Y
wells in mm of water; MW2 10, MW3 3, MW4 8 and MW6 1.
Table 2 shows calculations using dew points and the
concentrations of the vapor stream to prediction pressures needed
` to condense the gasoline.
With a vapor stream concentration of 23 ppm as aged gasoline with a
estimated vapor pressure of 82 0 OOF (aged gasoline) a pressure of
19 atmospheres is needed or 144467 mm Hg. This indicates that
soils with low concentrations the Cyclo Purge is not efficient in
the removal of hydrocarbons as gasoline, but maybe beneficial for
diesel removal (compounds with lower dew points) .
The Cyclo Purge has shown to be successful in removing the water
with some hydrocarbons as dissolved in the w:eter with pressure
through the condensate tank ;4.5 mg/L hydrorarbons) .
,T
r
3
5
