Wright Environmental Services, Inc.
4. Water samples retained for chemical analysis will be placed in clean, 40 ml
VOA glass vials or clean amber glass one-liter bottles or other laboratory prepared
sample containers and caps as appropriate for water sampling purpose and analytical
test method parameters. Samples will be collected with minimum headspace, and
inverted to check for air bubbles. Samples will then be placed in an ice chest on
crushed ice, blue ice, or refrigerated at 4 degrees Centigrade.
5. Checks on sampler field and decontamination procedures will be performed as
needed during the project for sampler decontamination procedures and laboratory
quality assurance programs. Sampling blanks (pump blank) of distilled water will
be poured through the sampling bailer and placed in clean sample collection bottles
or vials. Trip blanks will be sealed by the laboratory and carried by the sampler.
One water sample blank will be taken for each set of water samples collected from
each set of wells. The number of blanks may be one per sampling event or 10%
depending on the number of wells sampled for the given site. Specific checks and
blanks, and collection of duplicates or split samples will be revised for project
specific needs.
6. All sampling equipment will be precleaned prior to arriving on-site,
decontaminated following each sampling event, prior to use the next monitoring well
and prior to leaving the site.
Sample Records and Chain-of-Custody
1. Sample records for each sample will contain information on sample type and
source including; project number, sampler name, sampling date and time, location,
laboratory name, sampling method, and any significant conditions that may affect
the sampling.
2. A signature Chain-of-custody and transference documentation will be
maintained at all times. A copy of the Laboratory sample results and the completed
Chain-of-custody will be provided with the technical reporting.
Quality Control and Quality Assurance Objectives
The sampling and chemical laboratory analysis procedures employed for
groundwater sampling and monitoring follow quality assurance and quality control
(QA/QC) outlined in current Federal, State and local agencies guidance documents.
Quality assurance objectives have been established to develop and implement
procedures for obtaining and evaluating water quality and field data in an accurate,
precise and complete manner. In this way, sampling procedures and field
measurements provide information that is comparable and representative of actual
field conditions.
WES Sampling Protocols last rev. 5/96 Page 6
