Residual contaminant concentrations should be compared to Environmental
Screening Levels (ESLs) established by the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality
Control Board, for gross contaminants and direct exposure, and California Human Health
Screening Levels (CHHSLs). published by the Office of Environmental Health Hazard
Assessment, California Environmental Protection Agency, and include an evaluation of the
soil gas data from soil gas samples collected at three feet below surface grade in September
2000. If any aspect of this evaluation indicates a potential hazard or risk to human health or
the environment, then submit a work plan to collect additional soil gas samples to the EHD by j
27 December 2010. Please note that technical guidance documents for soil gas sampling
usually prescribe a sampling depth of five feet to minimize the potential for atmospheric
breakthrough diluting the sample.
By letter dated 22 September 2009, the EHD,informed you that this office is not being notified
of scheduled groundwater sampling events; as of this time, this office is not receiving
notification of pending sampling events. You must inform.the EHD at least seventy-two hours
prior to each groundwater monitoring and sampling event so EHD staff can be present for an
inspection.
If you have any questions concerning.this letter, please contact Vicki McCartney at (209) 468-
9852, or by email at vmccartney@sjcehd.com.
i
Sincerely,
i
e
Victoria L.
