(AGE) at the above-referenced site during implementation of the
work as proposed in the Preliminary Site Assessment Plan dated October 25, 2000 prepared by
AGE. EHD requests that at least one soil sample from each significantly similar lithological
layer be submitted to a lab for soil physical characteristic analyses such as permeability,
porosity, dry bulk density, moisture content, and organic carbon content.
High levels of oxygenates were reported in the soil samples from the tank removal in
October 1999. Presence of hydrocarbon odor and discoloration were also observed in the
soil samples collected during implementation of the preliminary above-mentioned work.
The site is a potential candidate for interim remediation such as soil vapor extraction (SVE)
since SVE is particularly effective against contaminants such as methyl tert butyl ether
(MTBE} due to the chemical's high vapor pressure in the vadose zone. Soil physical
characterization is crucial in determining subsurface transportation mechanism of
contaminants, and whether SVE is a feasible remediation technology at the site.
Please direct any questions to Jeffrey Wong at (209) 468-0335.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Department }
G .
