(AGE), as requested by EHD in a letter dated March 11,2005.
AGE proposed installing one groundwater extraction (GWE) well screened from 33 to 55
feet below surface grade (bsg), and four soil vapor extraction (SVE) wells screened from 13
to 35 feet bsg at the above-referenced site. AGE proposed performing a groundwater
extraction test and a SVE pilot test to evaluate the feasibility of GWE and SVE technologies
as interim remediation alternatives for impacted groundwater and the impacted soil in the
vadose zone. An 8-hour groundwater step test will be performed with the pumping rates
increasing every 2 hours. Groundwater samples will be collected from the effluent line at
various intervals of the step test to help determine the optimum pumping rate and the
associated radius of influence. After the completion of the 8-hour step test, a 24-hour pump
test at a constant rate determined by the step test will be performed. AGE proposed
temporary storing the extracted ground water in a Baker Tank before transporting off-site to
a proper disposal site after characterization. For the vadose zone,an 8-hour SVE pilot test
will be performed. Extracted vapor will be destroyed by an internal combustion unit and
two catalytic converters. Four vapor samples will be collected at two-hour intervals.
EHD agrees with the above-mentioned AGE proposal as adequate and necessary elements
of the work plan (H&S 25296.10(c)(3).). EHD directs the proposed work be implemented
by July 31, 2005.
