Install one 4-inch dual-phase extraction well(EW-1)and two 4-inch soil vapor
monitoring/extraction wells nW 1,VEW-4 to evaluate the parameters needed its
designing a dual-phase soil vapor extraction and groundwater extraction remediation system_
2. Conduct a 5-day pilot test using the proposed extraction well consisting of a soil vapor
extraction test and a groundwater extraction test.
3. Collect soil vapor and groundwater sarnples dtuing the pilot test for laboratory analyses.
4. Prepare a report of findings including calculation of the 'radius of influence of the soil vapor
extraction test and the effect of the groundwater.pump test.
COMMENTS AND CONDMONS:
1. Modify the screen section of the proposed EW-1 from 20 feet below surface grade(bsg) to
GO feet bsg,to 20 feet bsg to 55 feet bsg. Kevin.Graves of the State Water Resources
Control Board(SWRCB)has expressed concerns of potential vertical flow(ambient flow)of
groundwater and cross-contamination of aquifers its, long wen screens, and requested
ambient flow be measured in was-With screen section over 20 feet below groundwater. The
last depth to groundwutcr level at the site was measured at approximately 36 feet bsg,
(September 2003). Reducing the sercet length of F-W 1 to less than 20 feet of screen below
groundwater eliminates the need of measuring ambient flow in the well
2. Install the wells by}December 17,2003. However,if possible EHD recommends that the
wells be installed in the same mobility as the installation of the monitoring wells(Oct,2002
work plan by GTI) during the 3rd week of November,2003 to maximize cost-effectiveness.
DATED Noveanber 15 2003 By
Cc- CRWQCB,Central Valley Region=James L.L.
