GT
APPROVED with Conditions (See Below)
ADEQUATE AND NECESSARY ELEMENTS OF THE WORKPLAN (H&S
25299.37,subd.(c)(3).)
1. Install one 4-inch dual-phase extraction well(EW-1) and two 4-inch soil vapor
monitoring/extraction wells (VEW-1,VEW-2) to evaluate the parameters needed in
designing a dual-phase soil vapor extraction and groundwater extraction remediation system.
2. Conduct a 5-day pilot test using the proposed extraction well consisting of a soil vapor
extraction test and a groundwater extraction test.
3. Collect soil vapor and groundwater samples during the pilot test for laboratory analyses.
4. Prepare a report of findings including calculation of the radius of influence of the soil vapor
extraction test and the effect of the groundwater pump test.
COMMENTS AND CONDITIONS:
1. Modify the screen section of the proposed EW-1 from 20 feet below surface grade (bsg) to
60 feet bsg,to 20 feet bsg to 55 feet bsg. Kevin Graves of the State Water Resources
Control Board(SWRCB)has expressed concerns of potential vertical flow(ambient flow) of
groundwater and cross-contamination of aquifers in long well screens, and requested
ambient flow be measured in wells with screen section over 20 feet below groundwater. The
last depth to groundwater level at the site was measured at approximately 36 feet bsg
(September 2003). Reducing the screen length of EW-1 to less than 20 feet of screen below
groundwater eliminates the need of measuring ambient flow in the well.
2. Install the wells by December 17,2003. However,if possible EHD recommends that the
wells be installed in the same mobility as the installation of the monitoring wells (Oct,2002
work plan by GTI) during the 3`a week of November,2003 to maximize cost-effectiveness.
DATED November 15 2003 BY
Cc: CRWQCB,Central Valley Region—James L.L.Barton,RG
Cc: Geological Technics,Inc.-Raynold I.Kablanow
