' GeologtcafTechnicr Inc Page 4
Groundwater Monitoring Report
' Project No 723 2
January 19, 2000
' • The groundwater sample collected from the old domestic well located at0 East Castle
k'
showed the presence of lowleaf Toluene_Xylene and TPH-G This well is not beteg
' used for a water supply and does not have a pump in it that could be activated so the
potential for exposure to the public is minimal The well has a measured total depth of 70
feet The construction is unknown A watertight locking cap and traffic rated well box
' were installed on this well during the monitoring event
• Preliminary investigation of the domestic well DW @ 60 East Castle is approximately 70
feet deep and is observed to have tree roots protruding through the well casing into the
' well The contamination concentration in this well are increasing, which causes some
concern for allowing the contamination to enter the deeper porting of the aquifer
• During field monitoring/well purging work, water' quay` parameters were measured, including Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) Th ORP results show a direct
correlation of negative values for wells in the contaminated zone Thus suggesting that
natural biodegradation of these chemicals is not a significant attenuation process
• To date, no wells are located outside the contaminated zone The domestic well and the
deep well did show positive ORP values {\
\ J
3.0 CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS
lie Conclusions
1 The groundwater plume is not defined vertically or laterally
2 Groundwater flow trends to the northeast to east u
' 3 High levels of BTEX and TPH are present in the groundwater of all wells
4 Oxygen fuel compounds have been detected —
' S It appears that the groundwater in the vicinity of the domestic well may be contaminated
Recommendations
' l Continue quarterly groundwater monitoring, with the next monitoring event scheduled in
March of 2000 0+
2 Due to the presence of the oxygenated fuel compounds during previous monitormg
events, the quarterly monitoring events should include analysis by EPA method 8260
3 Complete the water well receptor survey for the site v-4_
4 The Domestic Well @ 60 east Castle Street should be investigated to determine well
rconstruction, current condition, and potential for impacting the deeper aquifer
r4.4 LIMITATIONS
r This report was prepared in accordance with the accepted standards and practices of the
field of environmental geology, groundwater hydrology and good business practices It
should be recognized that definition and evaluation of environmental conditions is a
r
r
