Excavation to a depth greater than <br /> 5 feet below grade will endanger the structural integrity of the <br /> canopy. The area targeted for over-excavation was defined by <br /> laboratory analysis of grab samples obtained during exposure by <br /> backhoe. The area is confined to a region immediately beneath the <br /> product dispensing island nearest the station store. The excavated <br /> soil will be stockpiled in accordance with county and state <br /> regulations and sampled for determination of disposal method. <br /> If the limits of the excavation do not remove all detectable petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons, then a vapor extraction well will be permitted and <br /> installed. The extent of soil containing petroleum hydrocarbons will <br /> thus be defined. <br />
