(Hygienetics) prepare an addendum to Hygienetics'
January .20, 2003 work plan proposing additional excavation and soil sampling at the Bulk
Transportation Facility in Stockton, California. The purpose of the work will be to remove soil
i which has been impacted with petroleum hydrocarbons and sample and test in-situ soil after
excavation to confirm the affected soil has been removed.
F
Revised Work
Hygienetics proposes overexcavation and confirmation soil sampling at the locations where
elevated concentrations of diesel fuel hydrocarbons were detected during removal of the former
diesel underground storage tank. The revised work elements are described in the following
sections. Other work procedures will conform to those described in Hygienetics' January 20,
2003 work plan.
Overexcavation
Foss will further excavate in the area of the diesel fuel pipeline and at the junction of the fuel piping
het~Neen the: xro satellite dispPnserq..-t,Ging a.backboe onliand tools, as annrapriate. For»urposes_af
this addendum, Foss will excavate a minimum distance of 2%z feet along the existing trench line on
either side of the two sample locations at which elevated levels of diesel hydrocarbons were
previously detected. Excavation will proceed vertically to a depth at which visual and olfactory
evidence indicates soil impacted with petroleum hydrocarbons has been removed. As necessary,
Foss will also excavate laterally to remove any impacted soil encountered. Foss will then excavate to
a depth approximately 5 feet greater than the above-described depth and approximately 1 foot
beyond the lateral extent of impacted soil. During this additional excavation, Hygienetics will use a
1 photoionization detector to check in-situ soil for evidence of petroleum vapor. The excavated soil
will be stockpiled on and covered with plastic, pending characterization for proper disposal. a
i .
F
1
