N
California Tank Lines, Inc.
Page 2 of 2
In addition, EI proposes to collect groundwater samples from MW-4 to be analyzed for electron
acceptors. EI states that the data generated from these analyses will be used to evaluate natural
attenuation at the proposed locations. EHD needs clarification why groundwater samples
collected from MW-4 will be analyzed for electron acceptors. Specifically, what electron
acceptors will be included in this analysis and how will this provide data to be used to evaluate
natural attenuation at this site? Also, why was MW-4 selected to acquire this data?
The work plan, as submitted, only includes one CPT boring on the east side of South El Dorado
Street. Not included in this work plan is the advancement of two additional CPT borings on the
east side of South El Dorado Street. During a telephone conversation between EI and EHD on
October 3 , 2006, EHD recommended that three CPT borings be advanced to properly evaluate the
lateral extent of the petroleum hydrocarbon groundwater plume in this direction. As stated above,
EHD approves the advancement of one CPT boring on the east side of South El Dorado Street;
however, based on the results obtained, EHD may determine that additional CPT borings are
needed to properly evaluate the extent of your plume.
Please submit your response to EHD 's concerns listed above by March 2, 2007 .
