REQ EIVED
sEP 2 7 1006
6 .0 RECOMMENDATIONS ENVIRONMENt HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICES
This investigation will be conducted outside the terminal at 3105 S . El Dorado Street, on the
sidewalk and the east side of S . El Dorado Street, making security more difficult. In addition, we
are not proposing to install any new groundwater wells at this time, but only to secure soil and
groundwater samples from selected areas. A Geoprobe, or push drill, appears to be the ideal
system to complete the necessary investigation with minimal surface and subsurface disturbance.
In addition, no cuttings are produced during the sampling process.
Three probes (P1 , P2 & P3) will be advanced, one north of MW-4, one south of MW-4 (along
the sidewalk), and one east of MW-4 (on the east side of S . El Dorado Street) . The approximate
locations of these borings are shown in Figure 3 . Overhead electrical lines, and possible
underground utilities, along South El Dorado Street, will influence the exact location of these
probes. This will be determined by the Department of Health field representative, the geologist,
EI and/or CTL representative, and the operator of the Geoprobe, prior to advancing each probe.
For the scope of this work, the investigation will continue to a depth of 50 feet until two (2)
consecutive samples do not show contamination by field measures, with soil sampling at 5 foot
intervals starting at 15 feet below grade. A minimum of four (4) samples will be selected for
analysis for TPHg, TPHd, TPHo, BTEX and MTBE, at least two (2) of which will be from the
saturated zone. In addition, a groundwater sample will be secured for analysis for TPHg, TPHd,
TPHo, BTEX and MTBE/oxygenates .
Groundwater samples will be obtained in a cleaned special bailer, secured in 40 ml volatile
'I
'i organic analysis vials, placed in a cooler with wet ice and delivered to a State certified laboratory
with chain of custody documents.
Probes P1 , P2 & P3 will be back filled with cement grout applied by standard procedures used by
li experienced drilling contractors. A registered geologist will supervise all operations, and will
log all borings in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).
7.0 LABORATORY ANALYSIS
All soil samples will be extracted using EPA method 5030 . After extraction, the soil and water
'I
samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel, oil and gasoline (TPHg,
; I
I
6
v
