El Dorado St.
Stockton CA 95206
San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
has reviewed the Preliminary Investigation & Evaluation Report dated July 26, 1999
prepared by Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. for the above referenced site. Soil and
groundwater samples collected at this site evidence petroleum contamination. The
vertical extent of soil contamination appears to be defined. Further site investigation is
necessary to evaluate the groundwater condition and the lateral definition of
contamination at this site.
PHS/EHD agrees with the recommendations in the above referenced report. A work
plan to investigate the groundwater at this site and determine the lateral extent of
contamination should be submitted to PHS/EHD by September 25 , 1999 .
Monitoring Wells (MWs) should be constructed at the site to evaluate the groundwater
conditions and to establish the groundwater gradient. MWs should be screened at an
interval representative of the affected groundwater. Groundwater samples should be
analyzed quarterly for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) as diesel and TPH as
gasoline by EPA Method 8015 , Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylene by EPA
Method 8020 and Oxygenates by EPA Method 8260.
The above referenced report indicates that the diesel chromatograms showed kerosene-
like characteristics. TPH should be quantified as kerosene during the groundwater
analytical investigation to be conducted at the site. Address and discuss kerosene
contamination if confirmed in the groundwater at the site.
Conduct a complete well survey of domestic, municipal, agricultural, industrial and any
other wells within a 2,000 foot radius of this site. Contact the Department of Water
Resources, municipal water suppliers and nearby industries for well information.
Perform a physical search of the area to identify any wells. Show the locations of all
wells and submit any known construction details of the wells. Identify all sources of
information in the well survey report and clearly depict each well location as they relate
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
