DRILLING AND SAMPLING
A soil boring for installation of groundwater extraction well EW- 1 will be advanced to a depth of
F 55 feet bsg utilizing a truck-mounted, hollow-stem drill rig and 10-inch diameter hollow-stem
augers; two soil borings for installation of SVE wells VW-1 and VW-2 will be advanced to 40 feet
bsg utilizing 8-inch diameter hollow-stem augers; one soil boring for installation of air sparge well
AW- 1 will be advanced to 45 feet bsg utilizing 8-inch diameter hollow-stem augers; one soil boring
for installation of ozone sparge well OSW- 1 will be advanced to a depth of 42 feet bsg utilizing 8
inch diameter hollow-stem augers and four soil borings for installation of multi-level ground water
monitoring wells MW-8, MW-9, MW- 10 and MW- 1 Twill be advanced to depths of 125 feet bsg
utilizing 8-inch diameter hollow stem augers. Soil cuttings generated during drilling activities will
be placed on and covered with plastic sheeting; rinseate will be containerized in properly labeled
DOT-approved 55-gallon drums, and stored on-site in an area lacking public access. Disposal
alternatives for rinseate and stockpiled soil will be selectedbased on results of a laboratory analysis.
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals, beginning at a depth of 5 feet bsg for logging
purposes; selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department of Health
III Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for the following constituents:
TPH-g, TPH-d, TPH-k and TPH-mo in accordance with EPA Method 8015
Modified/5030/3550;
• BTEX, methanol, ethanol, 1 ,2-DCA, EDB, MTBE, TAME, DIPE, ETBE and TBA by EPA
Method 8260 Modified; and
i_ ) Total lead by EPA Method 7420.
Laboratory reports for soil analysis, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report with
findings and recommendations.
Selectedsoilsamples-will be-analyzed by- microbiologicaHaboratory for- microbial-enumeration
and physicochemical characteristics; selected soil samples may also be analyzed for intrinsic
j permeability, moisture content, porosity and total organic carbon (TOC) in accordance with the
appropriate EPA or ASTM methods. Laboratory reports for soil analysis sample chain of custody
documentation will be presented in a report with findings and recommendations.
4.2.
