SECTION 2
SITE SPECIFIC
HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN
Potential hazards to on-site personnel during sampling operations
will be presented by:
(1) working close to heavy machinery; and
(2) working inside an open excavation.
Potential exposures to petroleum hydrocarbon vapors will be
minimal given the low concentrations of volatile gasoline
constituents detected in the soil and the low volatility of diesel fuel.
In order to minimize the hazards of working in an open excavation
with heavy machinery, all personnel working in close proximity to
the backhoe will be required to wear a hard hat and steel-toed work
boots. The 1:1 slope of the excavation walls will be maintained to
prevent collapse of the excavation walls.
M
A well equipped First-Aid Kit will be available at all times on-site for
minor injuries. All ERM-West field personnel are trained in the use
of the First-Aid Kit and have completed the 40 hour course in Health
and Safety Training for Hazardous Waste Workers.-as required by
federal OSHA regulations found in 29CFR1910.120.
A vehicle equipped with a mobile phone will. be on-site at all times
during field work activities. The number 911 will be dialed for
emergency situations.
