as
u
V-4M_ Ma
In order to assess the extent of petroleum hydrocarbon occurrence at
the site, ERM-West conducted soil and groundwater sampling at the
.. facility during November and December 1990. Twenty-five borings
were `installed in the area of the excavation. The stockpiled soil was
also sampled to identify and distinguish between clean and
petroleum hydrocarbon-containing soils. The locations of the borings
and monitoring wells installed during this investigation are
illustrated in Figure 1-2.
Detailed descriptions of these previous investigations performed by
WHF and ERM-West are presented below. The purpose of this report
is to:
• Present the results of a soil and groundwater investigation
performed by ERM-West during November and December 1990;
Synthesize analytical data from all environmental investigations
at the site; and
Assess the occurrence of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil and
- groundwater beneath the site.
~' Results Of P Levious Invesdgations
• ` The results of previous investigations are presented to convey the
history of investigations at the site as well as to assist in
characterizing petroleum hydrocarbon occurrence at the site.
4 Reports documenting previous investigations are contained in
Appendices to this report and are referenced below.
Phase II Site Assessment MM
During January 1990, WHF conducted a site assessment that
included the installation of six soil borings near five underground
storage tanks located in the northwest corner of the facility. See
Figure 3, Appendix A. The tanks consisted of two 10,000-gallon
diesel tanks, two 5,000-gallon diesel tanks, and one 10,000-gallon
gasoline tank. Soil samples were collected at a depth of 15 feet below
grade, and were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as
- diesel and gasoline, and/or benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and
xylenes (BTEX). Concentratiiins of 1500 milligramsper.kilogram
(mg/kg).of diesel and 170.mrAg of gasolinewere detected in the
sample:collected from boring'B1 (see Table 1-1). Results from all
other samples were below the Ii.nit of detection.—.The-results-of-this-
------------ --------
- described in the report entitled "Phase. II
Environmental Property. Assessment", which was submitted by
1-2
