UL 142 minimum steel thickness for this large of a tank is .240 inch minimum under the SWRI
93-01 Construction standard for Aboveground
Storage tanks for Flammable Liquids. Given
the minimal level of corrosion for this Tank,
any difference in steel thickness can be
jj
attributed to a difference in steel thickness for
the steel used at the time and for the
manufacture of this Tank. Upon close
m inspection and tests, the issues relating to the
z. shells do not, in any way, negatively affect the
secondary containment, although, on this issue,
it is recommended that if there were to be
some observable issues, such as more
aggressive corrosion, or shell fractures, or weld
breaks, that when discovered, the condition is to be
monitored and quickly assessed to determine if there is
a need for repair, or for a formal inspection of the
interior of the primary tank. If any of those observable
issues were to lead to structural cracks, that those
cracks be repaired, sealed and the tank be repainted.
As of the date of the inspection, there were no
conditions which would impact on the ability of the
tank to maintain its integrity, nor any visible evidence
that the small underlying issues presented any
articulable danger of increasing in severity or in scope.
This Aboveground Storage Tank, having been well maintained and that the seal-paint of the
overall tank has been effective in preventing any substantial issues in addition to maintaining the
overall integrity of the exterior steel shell, that the overall condition of the shell on this Tank has
been quite good.
There appear to be no issues with any aspect of the Tank's primary vessel, as no signs beyond
minor external corrosion are present. Any additional maintenance indicated in this section should
be scheduled for this coming year when weather conditions allow.
Tank Equipment
Piping:
Filling operations pipe is a 3-inch overhead pipe which allows for filling the Tank from a single
fill containment box connection. During the inspection of the AST and piping, it was noticed
that there was a minor amount of surface corrosion on the fill piping. A closer inspection
indicated that the corrosion was only surface corrosion, not affecting the integrity of the steel
pipes. It was recommended that's all pipes should have the corrosion removed and the pipes
repainted, during the regular preventative maintenance schedule. . At the top of the tank, it was
found there was an FE Petro pump motor, and upon upon further inspection, determined that
dispenser motor is an electric pump motor is contained within the dispenser box, which is
