Ms.Mareet Lagorio •
November 10,2000
Page 4
when three successive measurements of field parameters are within 10 percent. Instrument
calibration will be conducted at the beginning of each field day, and thereafter if suspect or
erroneous readings occur. Purge water will be stored in labeled drums pending characterization
and appropriate disposal.
Samples will be collected by bailer and transferred to laboratory-provided containers appropriate
for the analyses to be conducted. Samples collected for dissolved iron will be field filtered with
a disposal 0.45 micron filter. The sampler will don new disposable latex gloves prior to
collection and handling each sample. Sample containers will be labeled with the site name,
sample identification, sample depth, date and time of sampling, and initials of the sampler- The
sample will be placed in a sealable plastic bag and placed on ice in a cooler pending
transportation to the laboratory. The sample information will also be logged on a chain of
custody form along with the analyses to be run. The chain of custody will accompany the
samples from the time of collection to delivery to the laboratory.
Groundwater Sample Analyses
Each groundwater sample will be analyzed for:
• Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons for Diesel (TPHd) — Method 8015 modified for
diesel
• Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons for motor oil (TPHm)—Method 8015 modified for
motor oil
• Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) — Method 8270 — semi volatile
organic compounds
• Aromatic Hydrocarbons [benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes
(BTEJ)]—Method 8021
• pH—Method 9045
• Iron—Method 6010 (dissolved and total)
Equipment Decontamination and Waste Containment
Non-disposable sampling equipment will be decontaminated between samples by a three-bucket
wash: washing with a non-phosphate detergent, rinsing in tap water, and rinsing again in
distilled water. Drilling equipment will be decontaminated with a high-pressure washer.
Decontamination fluids and water will be stored in 55-gallon steel drums.
Drill cuttings will be stockpiled on-Site on plastic sheeting pending analyses of the groundwater.
If groundwater is not impacted the soil cuttings will be deposited to the ground.
P:\20000\20587\WKPLNwellsLdoc
