KLE/NFELDER
\ /ensm voei..erensmno.
5 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The conclusions and recommendations are derived from groundwater sampling activities at the
' California Natural Products facility located in Lathrop, California and are based on the activities
conducted during the second quarter 2014. The following conclusions are a summary of the
notable groundwater characteristics.
5.1 CONCLUSIONS
• During the second quarter 2014, the groundwater flow direction in the vicinity of the
Plant Area was to the south, with a gradient of 0.007 ft/ft. The groundwater flow
direction in the N/ALAIA was calculated to be towards the west, with a gradient of 0.003
' ft/ft. The groundwater flow direction in the MARIA was estimated to be towards the west.
The gradient was not calculated due to the near linear orientation of the wells. These
1 findings are generally consistent with past monitoring events.
' • Groundwater sample results were compared to the California Environmental Protection
Agency, Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board, A Compilation of Water
Quality Goals, 2011.
• The groundwater quality in the MARIA was generally consistent with historical results.
The TDS concentrations ranged from 790 to 1,100 mg/L. The TDS concentrations were
above the Recommended Level SMCL (500 mg/1) in all and above the Upper Level
(1,000 mg/L) in one well at the MARIA wells sampled. The Nitrate as N concentration in
one well (W-5) was equal to the MCL (10 mg/I). the remaining samples were below the
MCL.
The groundwater quality from the N/SLAIA was also generally consistent with historical
results. The concentrations of TDS ranged from 510 to 810 mg/L and were above the
SMCL (500mg/1) in all of the six wells. The concentration of nitrate as N was above the
MCL of 10 mg/L in four of the six wells.
Fecal coliform organisms were not detected in any of the nine groundwater samples
collected at the site during this quarter. However, total coliform was detected in one
sample in the MARIA equal to the detection limit of 1.1 MPN/100ml.
A101486.7/SAC14R02453 Page 11 of 14 July 25, 2014
©2014 Kleinfelder
